2012 was a busy year – the Greater Cleveland Food Bank made possible 33.4 million meals! This is no easy feat. We were only able to accomplish this with your help!
It is truly amazing when you think about the depth of the community's support for the Food Bank and our mission. Our food donors contribute nutritious food items. Our volunteers repack the food and get it ready for distribution. Our financial donors support key programs, such as our Kids Cafes and Backpack for Kids programs, that ensure our success. Our staff works tirelessly with our member agencies to get the food to the people who need it most – the thousands of hungry men, women and children in our community.
Our work together helps to ensure that Northeast Ohio's community organizations have enough food and resources they need to feed the hungry. Over the past year, we have worked to improve the quality of the food we distribute, expand our outreach efforts to sign people up for SNAP benefits (formerly food stamps) and educate the community about the need for hunger relief.
We are thrilled to be able to share so much good news with you and are grateful for your continued support in our work. We have a great deal of work ahead of us this year to ensure that local community organizations have the resources they need to serve the hungry. Hunger continues to be a serious and urgent problem right in our own community, and it continues to get worse. One in six Ohioans struggles to put food on the table. We understand the challenges we face and we know that, with your help, we can and will do more. Your support makes our accomplishments possible.
It is an enormous undertaking to feed thousands of people in our six-county service territory. But it is one that we could never do without you - our member agencies, volunteers, local legislators, food donors and financial donors. You truly make a difference, and for that we are thankful.
